Financial Modelling Recommended to Strengthen Supervision and Regulation of the Congolese Mining Sector

Kinshasa hosted on Tuesday 25 November, at the Pullman Chapiteau, a high-level Forum on the refinement and strengthening of the macroeconomic framework model through the inclusion of forecasts of budgetary revenues from the extractive sector.

As a member of the high-level panel, the National Minister of Mines, Louis Watum Kabamba, spoke on “The strategic importance of financial modelling to strengthen supervision and regulation of the mining sector: the challenge of transmitting certified and verified data to the Extractive Revenue Forecast Hub of the CPCM”.

He also recalled the need for equitable sharing of mining benefits, strict compliance with national laws and standards, as well as reciprocal obligations between the State and investors. He highlighted initiatives aimed at preserving and stimulating investment in the post-exploitation phase.

He welcomed the holding of this Forum, whose conclusions will contribute to strengthening institutional coordination, improving the reliability of extractive revenue projections and supporting budgetary planning aligned with national ambitions.

The Minister of Mines reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of the Republic, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Head of State, to make the mining sector a structuring lever for national development.

This forum, which ended on Wednesday 26 November, was officially launched by the Minister of State, Minister of Planning and Coordination of Aid for Development, Guylain Nyembo.

These meetings bring together public decision-makers, national and international financial institutions, sectoral administrations, representatives of mining companies as well as technical partners engaged in the governance and planning of revenues from natural resources.
