
The event held on March 7, 2023, at the Fairmont Royal York Toronto Hotel welcomed nearly 200 people, including potential investors who had participated in the PDAC conference. Several speakers addressed the audience at this luncheon, notably on the following topics:
- Paul Mabolia delivered opening remarks.
- Didi Mudogo spoke about the vision of the DRC-Lunch, its history, and its prospects as an ideal setting for presentations of investment opportunities in the mining sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Dr. Mark Bristow, President and CEO of Barrick Gold Corporation, shared his experience with the Kibali Gold Mine project, particularly its contribution to infrastructure development in the mining area where they extract gold, through the construction of an electrified city, suitable for nearly 600,000 people, with road infrastructure.
- Victoria Stephen of MD-Conseils presented MD-Conseils’ experience in human resources management and the opportunities it would offer to potential investors;

- Jean-Félix Mupande of the Mining Cadastre began by presenting the climate challenges facing the world and the solutions available to the DRC to address them. He then presented a list of the various strategic minerals and metals available in the DRC, representing at least 30% of what the global economy needs to fuel its industries. He also outlined the exploration opportunities in the mineral belts and blocks, which currently represent only 8% of the total.
- Rock Bashala, Coordinator of the business climate unit, presented the new vision for business in the DRC, which consists of creating a framework for finding solutions by the private and public sectors; but also of ensuring the implementation of the various reforms initiated as part of improving the business climate.
- Uwe Naher, Geologist and Director of the BGR project, presented the mineral potential of the DRC, with a particular focus on metals used in battery manufacturing.
Olivier Binyingo, Vice President of Ivanhoe Mines, then presented their experience investing in various mining projects in the DRC.
Lunch, which began at noon, ended at 2:00 PM.
